Kateri Program at Collier High School

The Kateri Program uses a Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS) Program. Students earn rewards and positive reinforcement or feedback for positive behaviors and use daily reflection sheets to set goals aligned with Collier's core values: Respect, Safety, Kindness, and Responsibility, with guidance from staff.

Kateri Program students follow a set academic schedule with integrated therapeutic support. The Kateri Program at Collier High provides a small, supportive environment with clear routines and visual aids including schedules, checklists, and reflection sheets to assist students who benefit from structure in their school day.

The Kateri Program provides a sensory-friendly classroom environment with flexible seating options like bean bag chairs, sensory breaks, weighted jackets, fidget tools, and more. Our two Occupational Therapists offer sensory support in and out of the classroom in addition to our Certified Sand Play Therapist on staff.

Collier teachers customize assessments and assignments to accommodate students' diverse learning styles and abilities in the Kateri Program, offering options like extended time, visual aids, and hands-on projects, like a “Gratitude Jar”, seen below. Additionally, Kateri students have less transitions creating a small, more calming environment.

The Kateri Program provides various avenues for students to enhance social skills, including participation in Collier High School’s clubs and sports as well as trips and presentations that embrace productivity, like a recent visit from “The Lizard Guys.” Kateri students and staff eat lunch as a group daily to build social and communication skills like boundaries and taking turns.

Kateri students also take a “Career Exploration Life Skills” course where students use hands on projects to explore future careers and essential life skills. The Kateri Program recently adopted a Bearded Dragon, students have used this as an opportunity to practice responsibility and has brought students a new enthusiasm for learning.
