Counseling and Support
A major part of Collier High School students’ support is provided through the Social Service Department, which consists of nine Master's-level social workers, a Substance Awareness Counselor, consulting psychologists, and psychiatrist.

Through weekly individual counseling sessions, students come to understand their personal struggles and develop strategies to overcome and/or manage them. Counselors work 12 months out of the year and also provide home visits during the summer months.

This process is enhanced through a variety of specialized group therapies which pupils may join. These include:  Senior Group, which offers career guidance for all 12th graders; a separate Senior Group for 4-year college bound students; a support group for Children of Alcoholics; a Recovery Group for youngsters recovering from chemical dependence; a Support Group for girls who have been victims of sexual abuse; a Grief Group for students surviving significant loss; an Anger Management Group, a Social Skills Group, an Adoption Group, a Young Men’s Group, and a Journaling Group.  A parent group is also offered one evening per week in the Fall and Spring for 5 week sessions to provide support and guidance. A post-graduate counselor assists seniors with their plans and provides follow-up for Collier graduates.  In addition to the above, all students receive instruction in conflict resolution skills.
