Scholarships Sister Eileen Groogan Memorial Scholarship Program The purpose of this scholarship is to assist Collier seniors to pursue their postgraduate plans. Students selected for this scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used during their first year of study at any institution. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit and/or economic need. Trudy Sofen Postgraduate Assistance Fund Statement of Purpose: This fund is meant to assist former graduates of Collier High School or Collier Group Home in pursuing specialized training related to employment. The fund is in honor of Trudy Sofen, Administrative Assistant to the Director of Collier Services from 1977 to 2005. Eligibility: Former graduates of Collier High School and Collier Group Home who reached their majority (age 21), has not qualified for other assistance/scholarships, may have had to postpone their plans for postgraduate studies, and is now single mothers seeking gainful employment are eligible. The intention of the fund is to augment one’s ability to enter a training program or school which will further one’s education or job readiness/advancement. Normally, the fund could be used to reimburse the tuition of vocational/technical schools or other professional training, as well as certain materials/equipment to start a course or enter a field of endeavor. The fund may not be used to cover debts, pay rent, or assist in emergency situations. Application Process: Former graduates who meet the above-stated criteria must complete the attached application form in full. Monies will be awarded based on documented need and conformity to eligibility criteria as long as funds are available. Normally, funds will be issued by agency check after proper receipts are in hand. In some cases, the check may be made payable to the school or program applicant will attend. Amount of Assistance: The fund will be limited to disbursements of $500 per applicant each year. Depending on the strength of the fund and the number of disbursements anticipated, successful applicants may seek additional funding. Due Dates: Deadlines for applications are May 15th and November 15th.
Collier PTO Scholarship Award The PTO Scholarship Award is an annual award to recognize students who have made outstanding efforts to reach the goals, which they had set for themselves at Collier High School. The monetary award will be used to assist students who consistently work to maximize their talents and abilities are able to work toward goals even when faced with setbacks and who demonstrate positive involvement in school, community and workplace. A predetermined amount of money will be used to reimburse recipients for costs related to a particular educational/vocational item. Grad-to-Grad Scholarship Alumni graduates created this scholarship for current graduating seniors. The type of scholarship and the amount of money awarded may vary from year to year. Other Scholarships Occasionally Collier High School has the opportunity to award seniors with other scholarships. This application can be used to apply for those scholarships as well.
Looking for a way to pay for vocational training or college? Here are two scholarship programs aimed at helping young people who are aging-out of the child welfare system to continue their education through vocational training or college. Orphan Foundation of America (OFA) Begun in 1986, the Orphan Foundation of America Scholarship Fund supports the educational dreams of foster youth. To date, the program has awarded more than $1,000,000 to parentless students in 46 states. Awards range from $500 to $5,000 for academic or vocational training beyond high school for foster and former foster youth throughout the United States who are under age 25. Students attending a college, university or vocational school may use the funds for tuition, books or living expenses. Awards are dispersed in two payments, one in mid-August and one scholarship unless it I s a merit award with different criteria. Casey Family Scholars Program The Casey Family Scholars Program aims to decrease the financial barriers to higher educational faced by foster youth in need, and to support their success through the provision of mentoring. The program will provide scholarships of up to $10,000 to young people, under the age of 25, who have spent at least 12 months in foster care and were not subsequently adopted. The scholarships will be awarded for the pursuit of post-secondary education, including vocational/technical training, and will be renewable each year based on satisfactory progress and financial need. An e-mentoring program is also available to all scholars. The Casey Family Programs’ Board of Trustees will select the first group of scholars on June 15. Approximately 200 Scholars will be chosen for the first year, and the average scholarship is expected to be about $5,000. Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation Applications are available in February and submission deadline is May 1. Introduction: The Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce (EMACC) Educational Foundation intends to grant at least three (3) $1,000 scholarships to eligible persons who meet the established criteria. Eligibility and criteria are defined below. Determination of eligibility and selection of recipients will be made by the Board of Directors of the EMACC Foundation (“Foundation Board”), in its sole discretion. Scholarships Offered: Category A) $1,000 for a college student entering his/her junior or senior year who is in need of help to complete his/her degree because of increased expenses or decreased finances. Category B) $1,000 for a “returning” student. A returning student is a student whose education has been interrupted and who will be at least 25 years old at the start of the school year. Category C) $1,000 for a vocational student pursuing post high school vocational education. Post high school vocational does not include pursuit of a four (4) year college degree. Scholarships will generally be awarded to full time students. However, part-time students whose application reflects serious attention to completing a course of study will also be considered. Criteria: In awarding scholarships, the Foundation Board may consider any or all of the following in its sole discretion: prior academic, vocational or professional performance; extracurricular or community activities; financial need; letters o f recommendation; character; personal statements or interview. Statement of Non-Discrimination: The awarding of scholarships shall be made without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual preference, age or physical handicap. Application Procedure: Applications for scholarships shall be made on forms and in accordance with procedures developed by the Foundation Board. All applications, including references, must be completed and received at the EMACC Office at 170 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701, by 5:00 PM eastern time, May 1st. Scholarships will be awarded on or about June 1st, by the Foundation Board. Use of Scholarship Funds: Scholarships will be awarded for college or vocational tuition and fees. Rules: The Foundation Board may adopt any rules necessary or desirable in its sole discretion to carry out the objectives of the Foundation, including a request for additional information from the applicant. Payment: Scholarship checks shall be made payable to the institution or, in certain circumstances, as the Foundation Board otherwise deems appropriate. Foundation Board Discretion: The Foundation Board reserves the right to award the 2006 scholarships as it deems appropriate including, without limitation, the right to award more than one scholarship in a particular category, the right to refrain from awarding any scholarship in a particular category, or the right to refrain from awarding any scholarship in any of the categories in its sole discretion. Please Note: by completing the Collier High School Scholarship Application you will be considered for all the scholarships available through Collier. Copies of this application will be given to the individual scholarship committees for consideration.
